1. Describe some of the changes in the communications industry that are
affecting network performance.
2. What are the shortcomings of the current design techniques that led
to L2/L3 network design?
3. What types of network traffic should be monitored and why?
4. What is proposed to replace the "dumb broadband pipe"?
5. What are some of the practical problems that network providers face
with P2P traffic?
6. What could be done to mitigate these problems?
7. What are the key requirements to allow a DPI product to take on the
role of network monitoring and protection?
8. What is the difference between packet envelope and packet payload
content modification?
9. Describe two separate scenarios where modification of envelope and
content would be beneficial to the network provider.
10. What are the basic security requirements for a DPI security system?
11. What are the technical challenges faced in lawful monitoring of
VoIP traffic?
12. Carry out research into available products that can carry out DPI.
Name the manufacturer and model of at least THREE networking products
that can carry out DPI including ONE manufactured by Cisco.

prepared to present them to your colleagues when we next meet.
