Labwork - Adding value to configuration files

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
Read ALL of the text for this lab thoroughly before you make a start.
Follow the instructions completely for the lab to be successful.

Proceed to read the lab

Download the PT file for this part of the lab and run it in Packet Tracer 5.0 or higher.

This lab will not work correctly onversions of Packet Tracer earlier than version 5.0

You may need to save the lab file to your desktop before running Packet Tracer from the NAL window.

Use your log books to make notes for this lab and answer all questions.

Introduction

Introduction

When working with a set of routers, it can be difficult remembering where the connections are between the sections of the network. It can also be hard working out which LAN is which and what ACL lines are for.

Adding comments can greatly ease the job of maintaining a router especially if someone else has to do this.

In this lab you will be adding descriptions and remarks to config files to make them easier to understand and maintain.

Download the Packet Tracer file for the network shown below.

1.  Open the configurations for all routers and add descriptions for all interfaces, serial and FastEthernet. The description must say where the serial link goes to or which LAN is attached.

Make a note of the descriptions.

2.  Add one access control list to prevent PC0 from accessing any resource off of the Kings Hill LAN.

3. Comment this ACL

4. Add TELNET passwords and access to all routers - see earlier labwork.

5.  Add encrypted enable passwords to all routers

6. Add an appropriate 'message of the day' to all routers.

Save your results and a copy of your running configurations for each router in your logbook.

If you wish, you may download Packet Tracer 5 from the Useful Applications link on the home page.

Optional Extra Work

Open one of your earlier labwork exercises and add comments to the interfaces and passwords for all routers.
